Fuji: how to play
Get everyone to a 🏠 village location. You win together when everyone has arrived. You lose together if anyone reaches zero stamina or is caught by lava.
Each player has a skill, equipment, 25 stamina and six dice (five for some skills). Read your cards and make any starting choices.
1. Plan together
Look at your dice and choose a destination up to three steps away, or stay where you are. Movement follows connected locations, never diagonally or through lava.
Discuss your chances, but do not share exact dice values, counts or totals. “This route looks good” is fine.
Choose a location, then Ready to travel. You can change your destination until everyone is ready. Neighbors must choose different destinations, unless they have nowhere else to go. With four players, your neighbors are the players on either side of you in seating order.
2. Reroll in silence
Destinations are now locked. Your planned distance determines your rerolls:
| Steps | Rerolls |
|---|---|
| 0 | 2 |
| 1–2 | 1 |
| 3 | 0 |
A destination marked ↻ gives one extra reroll. Skills and injuries can change your allowance.
Select any number of dice to reroll together. You can choose different dice each time or finish early. Do not discuss your rolls during this phase.
3. Use equipment
Discussion resumes. Use equipment to improve your chances or help teammates, then confirm when finished. Each card explains its effect and when it can be used, including during planning.
Used equipment is discarded unless your skill says otherwise. Finish on an equipment location to gain a card usable next round. Loaned and set-aside dice return at the end of the round.
4. Move and survive
Your destination's symbols determine which dice count. Add their values, not the number of dice. For example, yellow or 6 counts all yellow dice and all sixes, each die once.
Your total must beat both neighbors' totals, using your destination's symbols for everyone. Ties fail: you stay where you are. With two players, neutral dice provide the third total.
The Gatherer can spend power bars to add +1 per bar to a player's total.
Your lead over the highest opposing total determines stamina loss. A small lead costs more stamina; a large lead costs less. Check the ♥ guide on the map. You can lose stamina even when staying in place.
At 20, 15, 10 and 5 stamina, choose a new injury:
- Arm: cannot use equipment.
- Eye: lose normal and location-bonus rerolls.
- Amnesia: lose your skill.
- Leg: lose one die after this round.
Lava spreads one step at the end of each round. Crossing an eruption marker triggers an extra eruption immediately. Watch the marked locations that will be covered next.
Keep playing after reaching the village: everyone must arrive before anyone dies.
Equipment reference
| Equipment | Effect |
|---|---|
| Binoculars | During planning, swap any two completely empty land tiles, at any distance. No players, destination markers, equipment tokens, eruption markers, village tiles or lava. |
| Flare gun | Add three to your own movement value this round. This bonus does not increase the total teammates must beat. |
| Rope | Immediately move to an adjacent land tile during planning or equipment. |
| Shovel | Turn one die to any face. |
| Torch | During planning, reroll any selection of your dice once. |
| Pocketknife | Copy an eligible equipment card held by another player. |
| Water flask | Take up to two rerolls yourself, or grant one to a teammate. |
| First aid kit | Lose no stamina this round. |
| Wireless | Reveal your dice to everyone until the phase ends. |
| Tape | Turn any of your ones into sixes. |
| Compass | Turn any of your sixes into ones. |
| Machete | Set aside one or two dice. They become visible but do not count this round. |
| Fire lighter | Ask a teammate to lend you one die for the round. |
| Carabiner | Every player must reroll exactly one die. |
| Map | Lend one die to a teammate for the round. |
Set-aside and loaned dice return at the end of the round. The Equipment manager can give an equipment card to another player without being on the same location. The card's use phase and availability still apply.
